Yam (porridge or boiled with tomatoes sauce..) is a favourite of mine and a well known dish of West African origin. Yam is rich in carbohydrate. It has a low glycemic index, healthy and a good source of energy. It’s also a good source of vitamins A, B, C, and minerals like potassium, copper, calcium and iron.
I was looking forward to introducing Baby T to yam. He has already tried sweet potatoes, carrot, avocado and some other vegetable combinations.
Tip: Just incase you were wondering Yam is not sweet potatoes.

- Boil yam cubes in water until soft
- Drain yam cubes with a sieve or whatever means you prefer
- Add slightly warmed milk or room temperature milk to the cubes and mash. (optional can add either butter or shredded cheese to the mix)
- Mash until it is a creamy paste (or if preferred with smaller chunks for next stage up feeding)
You can serve either as above or with other vegetables like carrots or green peas. I would like to know what your baby thought of this recipe.
